Increased frequency and severity of behavioral issues in students are interfering with teaching and learning and are requiring a new set of skills to address this issue. Teaching children and adolescents how to manage their emotional brain and regulate their feelings of anger, anxiety, and hyperactivity is key in correcting reactive behavior. Identifying the variables involved in triggering anger are important for the children/adolescents and for the adults who are involved in their lives in order to reduce behavioral issues.

This workshop shares insights into curriculum and instruction that are effective in providing a learning environment that maximizes each student’s potential.

This workshop focuses on 10 keys that will help schools create a culture of partnership where parents feel informed, respected, and valued. When parents have a meaningful relationship with their school, they are involved and supportive. Effective parent partnerships positively influence student achievement.
The early years are vital years in brain development. With early intervention strategies and parent education, the readiness gaps for school can be reduced. Learn about the development of inner speech which is a critical skill for anticipatory thinking, emotional regulation, and impulse control. Strategies for how to provide enriched environments and effective parent partnerships are outlined in this workshop.
Effective questioning is critical to anchoring learning. Types of questioning techniques are taught and practiced in this workshop. Teachers will leave with strategies for effective questioning that can be used with all students. This is a great workshop for a 1-2 hour presentation for schools.

The design and wording of behavior goal sheets can make them effective in shaping positive behaviors. There are key components that make a behavior goal sheet effective in changing behaviors.
•Choose no more than 3 goals, one of which is very likely to be achieved
•Carefully word the goal to address the specific behavior
•Don’t have an ‘all or nothing’ rating system. (smiley or frowny face)
•Have options to evaluate the goal more than once a day so that one mistake doesn’t ‘blow’ the child’s day.
•Move from external/extraneous reward to internal reward (Shaping behavior)
•Determine motivators for child
Why do smart students fail? Numerous factors determine a student’s success in school. IQ and EQ (Emotional Quotient) influence success in school. AQ (Adaptability Quotient) is another factor that has been shown to be key in a student’s success regardless of IQ. Adaptability Quotient is the ability to respond appropriately to the desires and expectations of others for the given situation. There are 10 characteristics of AQ that can be identified and are related to a student’s ability to be successful in school. These characteristics can be taught in order to raise and strengthen a student’s Adaptability Quotient in order to increase their success in school.
A parent workshop that introduces 5 key components of effective parenting- Schedules, Modeling, Acknowledging, Responsibilities, and Together Time. A workbook is given to parents in order to personalize this workshop and engage parents throughout the presentation. Participants learn characteristics of parenting and effective tools to help parents in raising successful children.
